Job description

At the Environment Agency it is our ambition to champion diversity through building a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.

As a member of the leadership support team, you will be required to offer administrative support to specific members of the Area Leaderships team. You will also be the point of contact for the managers you support, sharing information with different teams across the area and wider business.

This can be quite a diverse and busy role, as such you have to manage and priorities your time well, as your duties can vary between updating online systems, managing team inboxes, and organising multiple crowded diaries, arranging meetings, preparing agendas and taking action notes at meetings – virtually and face to face.

Tasks that the successful candidate will complete include:

• Managing the secretarial support mailbox, responding to queries, and escalating as appropriate
• Setting up an ongoing schedule of meetings across the area as well as ad hoc meeting requests
• Organising meeting venues and travel
• Maintaining email distribution lists
• Administering annual leave requests, including organising Scheme of Delegation forms

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be asked to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment, and full training will be provided.

Everyone starting a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed. As part of your comprehensive induction, you will be provided with all the equipment required for your role.

The candidate pack and generic role profile should be read along with the advert to understand the key accountabilities and skills needed.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present information in a clear, comprehensible style and format

  • Exceptional time management/organisational skills and comfortable working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines

It would be helpful, but not essential, if you had:

  • Experience dealing with confidential and sensitive information and issues
  • Ability to take minutes at internal and external meetings
  • Full driving licence, you may be required to travel to other offices within the area from time to time

We are looking for someone who can build rapport quickly and has a proven record of successfully working well within a team and managing your own workload.

You’ll have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.
