We’re looking for an individual with the drive and vision to provide leadership and direction to our asset operations field team. By ensuring your team have the capabilities, training, and experience you will be responsible for delivering our flood risk asset maintenance programmes across Greater Manchester. The team predominately work outside in or near water, regularly using specialist equipment. You will therefore maintain a close overview on the health, safety, and wellbeing of their work due to its high-risk nature. You will be a Site Liaison Officer for some of our most important assets, this involves the day-to-day management of the site or asset to ensure that it is safe, secure, and ready to operate.
You will provide leadership to the teams around testing, training and exercising for asset operation and incident response, ensuring your team are able to respond professionally during flooding and environmental incidents. You will also play a role in our Incident Management work, through a duty role and being involved in all aspects of our incident management and response work. This may attract an additional payment, full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

You’ll have the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to lead people. You’ll be able to provide clear direction, instruction, and guidance through effective leadership. You’ll have the ability to recognise the strengths, vulnerabilities, and motivations within a team, as well as inspire development of team members and help them to embrace organisational change.
You’ll be able to resource, prioritise and deliver a work programme. Identifying the required competencies and skills needed to complete the necessary work. Experience of leading a team and managing construction and/or maintenance activities is preferable.
Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises, having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and is an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment.
The role is primarily office-based working from Sale Depot Monday-Friday with frequent local field site visits required, visiting locations which may not be easily accessible via public transport so a full UK driving licence is required.
Occasional travel to customers and Environment Agency offices in our area and further afield is also required for this role.
