We protect people and wildlife from the effects of climate change, flooding and environmental incidents. And it takes more than our technical disciplines to do this. Drawing on professional expertise in areas like IT, HR, communications and finance, we work closely with colleagues across the wider Defra Group to:

About our teams

Estates
Our Estates team manages land and property to support flood defence projects and environmental outcomes. They oversee offices, depots and 17,000 hectares of land, ensuring sustainability and value across our portfolio.

Contact Centre Services
CCS is the first point of contact for customers, handling over half a million interactions each year. They answer questions, take reports of pollution or flooding, and provide vital support to local teams.

Customers & Engagement
These teams manage local engagement, respond to MPs and councils, and support projects with clear communication. They help communities understand what we do and why.

Business Planning & Performance
This team enables planning and monitoring across the organisation, ensuring delivery of outcomes and creating space for development and incident response.

Future Funding
We secure investment to protect and improve the environment. Our specialists work on funding strategies, green finance and commercial development to bridge the gap between current resources and future needs.

Sustainable Business & Development
Leading on climate, air quality and green growth, this team shapes environmental strategy and works closely with government. Roles include climate specialists, planners, engagement experts and project managers.
