At the Environment Agency, we are responsible for regulating the disposal of radioactive waste across the nuclear industry in England. Whether it be an operational power station, or a new build project, our regulators work with nuclear operators to ensure the highest levels of environmental protection are achieved.
We are currently recruiting for Developing Nuclear Regulators.
As a Developing Nuclear Regulator, you’ll assist with this work. The role’s not just about waste. You’ll be expected to develop your understanding of the businesses and technology we regulate, how they operate and the impact they could have on people and the environment.
Our Developing Nuclear Regulator or roles are designed for those who have some relevant experience and are looking to further develop their skills in the nuclear sector.
We are looking for someone with an understanding of the nuclear industry and the determination and enthusiasm to further develop your skills. You'll have access to training courses and the support of colleagues to help you achieve this. At the Environment Agency, we are committed to the people and places we serve. Interaction with members of the public is an essential part of the role. You’ll also need to be willing to play your part in responding to incidents both within the nuclear field and across other functions.
You’ll be expected to show some understanding of relevant legislation and an appreciation of the challenges the industry faces.
We are looking for someone with an understanding of the nuclear industry and current challenges. You’ll have spent some time within the industry to fully understand the environmental challenges it faces. You’ll also have a sound understanding of the nuclear regulatory work carried out by the Environment Agency, preferably with some hands-on experience in this area.
You'll have the determination and enthusiasm to drive your own personal development and understanding of the industry. You should be able to demonstrate a well-organised approach, with excellent communication, technical leadership, team-working and IT skills.
You’ll need an awareness of relevant legislation backed up with related scientific knowledge. You’ll have an appreciation of the challenges the industry faces and understand modern environmental challenges and issues. You should be a great communicator and have experience of:
- programme and project management to achieve results
- influencing and persuading others
- communicating effectively
- working with customers and partners
The role will be based across office and nuclear site locations in England so there will be frequent and occasionally unscheduled travel. Occasional overseas travel may be required. Nuclear sites are generally not conveniently accessible by public transport, hence the post requires a full UK driving licence.
