The 4 posts available will provide technical support to transformational projects designed to accelerate our ability to assess, manage, and achieve sustainable nature recovery of our estuarine and coastal waters and habitats.

Depending on your expertise you will provide support to:

• complete baseline assessments under the flagship Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Programme, the further development of natural capital metrics and indicators, and the integration of new monitoring requirements
• demonstrate improved decision-making engagement and environmental outcomes through the implementation of Regional Marine Ecosystem and Source-to-Sea approaches
• improve understanding of saltmarsh blue carbon processes, mechanisms for accounting and enable more funding for blue carbon habitat restoration
• build our understanding of the actions needed to improve and maintain Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), including the implications of source-to-sea water quality challenges
• drive delivery of our Restoring Meadows, Marsh and Reef (ReMeMaRe) initiative, and contribute to habitat and species restoration projects, feasibility studies and evidence development.

For all posts, collaboration is essential. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the Environment Agency as well as with external partners such as Defra, other government bodies, industry, and academia. You will help identify opportunities to deliver greater benefits for nature, climate resilience and coastal communities.

You’ll join our Estuaries and Coasts Team in our Environment and Business (E&B) Directorate.

We provide leadership on the protection and restoration of our estuaries and coasts. We inform and deliver the government's key environmental objectives; using evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to influence policy and legislation, and enhance integrated delivery.

In your capability-based answers please demonstrate your:

technical knowledge and experience in an estuarine and coastal context for at least one of the following:

the ‘natural capital approach’ and its role in decision making

systems thinking and a source-to-sea management approach

policy, planning and regulation, and delivery body’s roles

monitoring, metrics and indicators

habitat restoration

blue carbon processes and policy drivers

ability to manage multiple priorities, and to deliver through others to time, budget and quality

ability to deliver on technically challenging projects through coordination of technical experts

excellent communication skills, and ability to clearly present technical information

strong interpersonal skills in managing collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders

ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues.

You need to be educated to degree level or have relevant professional experience.

You’ll have an EA Office base location, as a national role the working location is flexible / hybrid.
