This is an exciting and challenging role that will make a real difference to fisheries across the country, at its core is helping water companies understand and deliver their environmental obligations.
We are looking for a senior advisor with experience of working with partners to deliver environmental outcomes. You will understand river ecology and have some knowledge of what it takes to design and build fish passes. Are you the sort of person who can engage with stakeholders to build consensus and find solutions? Has excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan, track, and deliver actions against set timescales and budgets?
This is a national role and will sit within Environment and Business, but you will work with colleagues across the Environment Agency, water companies, the Rivers Trust network and many other stakeholders. It is therefore important to build and maintain good working relations and be an excellent communicator.
This post will support the Great Yorkshire Rivers project and take this best practice to influence future investment and collaborative working elsewhere through the next Water Company Price Review (AMP9 cycle).
You will provide technical leadership in taking a systems approach that reflects interconnected goals and legal duties. Also be confident connecting with a range of different audiences, including senior leaders and operational deliverers.

We are a dispersed national team in Nature Recovery working to manage and grow our income from fishing licence sales and ensure that the funding received is spent effectively.
We use evidence and expertise to engage and influence widely. You will work closely with Area colleagues (especially in Yorkshire) and as an outward facing role establishing collaborative links is critical.

For this role you should be able to demonstrate the following:
Essential:
- Relevant technical expertise and experience in the fields of fisheries and fish passage
- Excellent working knowledge how the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) is developed and implemented
- Awareness of key strategic partners/stakeholders and the ability to develop good working relationships with them
- Project and programme management experience to identify opportunities and any emerging risks
Desirable:
- Be able to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Have excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Be well organised, computer literate and able to respond to tight deadlines.
- Have experience of finding practical solutions to problems within time and budget constraints.
- Driving licence (public transport is generally prioritised).
This role is permanent based on a 37 hour week, part-time or flexible working can be considered.
You’ll have an EA Office base location, as a national role the working location is flexible. We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, however some travel and overnight stays may be required.
