Job description

You will collaborate with team members to deliver hydrological analysis and interpretation across the full flow range from flood to drought.  

You will contribute to monitoring catchment response, advising on the appropriate considerations for permitting, and the management of water resources.  You will work with the team and others to ensure we continue to improve the quality of hydrological data and its supporting metadata.  You will support our response to environmental, water resources and flooding incidents.  This may involve formal duty rota shifts as well as providing contextual information and analysis of the hydrological situation.

You will be involved in providing advice and information to both internal staff and a wide range of external customers.  This will involve communicating a wide range of information of varying technical complexity verbally, graphically and in more formal written reports.  You will not be expected to represent the Environment Agency in formal settings, but your attitude and actions will have a direct bearing on the reputation of the EA.

The Team:
The hydrology team provides information and advice to internal and external customers across Yorkshire.  We analyse and interpret hydrometric data across the full range of weather, soil and river conditions using statistical, modelling and graphical techniques.  Our knowledge of catchment response informs decisions affecting water allocation and quality, flood risk and habitats.  We ensure the monitoring network accurately reflects the wide variety of landscape and human activity by working closely with our hydrometry colleagues.

You’ll have an EA Office base location to work from, but will be expected to occasionally travel between our offices in Yorkshire. flexible working arrangements are available.

The role is primarily office based but you will occasionally be working with others in the environment.
