Job description

This is a fantastic opportunity to apply for two exciting positions at the Environment Agency. This is a great place to work if you want to make a difference in improving our environment and building a sustainable future. We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.

We are looking for 2 Senior Advisers to permanently join the national Corporate Strategy team. The team leads the future thinking for the organisation. It’s responsible for developing the organisation’s corporate strategies; and then designing and implementing approaches to deliver that future. Our current corporate strategy, EA2030, is fundamental to achieving our core mission; change for a better environment.

Alongside this the team delivers cross-cutting projects, working closely with different teams and departments, helping to lead the organisation through important milestones such as spending reviews. Projects include a mix of longer term priorities and short term sprints to tackle topical issues.

You’ll have sound strategic thinking, an ability to see the bigger picture and a skill for making links between different contexts and strategies. You’ll be adept at translating evidence into workable recommendations which drive tangible improvements and outcomes. You’ll have strong communication skills and an ability to construct persuasive arguments from the evidence.

Experience of managing strategic projects and the use of project management tools and techniques would be an advantage.

The Team:

The Corporate Strategy team sits in the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance (STA) Directorate. STA is at the heart of the Environment Agency. Its passionate and skilled people provide national-once services to enable our organisation to thrive.

The team relies on strong networking and influencing skills, working with others internally and externally. You will support and drive the team, embedding new ways of thinking and working across the organisation.

Experience/Skills Required:
- You will be a curious and agile thinker.
- You will have good communications and engagement skills and be an effective networker helping you to span organisational boundaries and silos.
- You will have good business and data analytical skills, working comfortably with technology and application of project management tools and techniques would all be an advantage.
- You’ll have a track record of using evidence to drive successful outcomes.
- You’ll understand, interpret and communicate the role of the Environment Agency and the public sector context in which it operates, and maintain an understanding of external partners and customers and their needs.
- You will have a passion for the delivery of our ambitions and a focus on working with others.

Contact and Additional Information:

Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises. Having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. Further information on incident response can be found within your candidate pack.

The role location is flexible, with a requirement for some national travel and occasional overnight stays.

Interviews will be held virtually at the beginning of August.
