WHO WE ARE

We are inspiring the people we work with to help the country to not only survive but thrive through the challenges of a changing climate. We want to keep people safe and protect the things that matter to us all – our natural spaces, our wildlife and our future.

Climate Change is the biggest challenge we face. Our Climate Ambition is to create a net zero nation that is resilient to climate change. Putting it at the heart of all we do will help us and the country become better prepared for the impacts of climate change whilst taking action to prevent further climate change from happening.

We are committed to making our organisation as diverse as the environment and represents the communities we serve. Our society and environment are changing, bringing us new challenges all the time. We know we need a diverse workforce to help us deliver better for the different communities we serve.

We know we can do more when we bring our different talents and abilities together.

We help people and wildlife adapt to climate change and reduce its impacts

We improve the quality of our water, land and air by tackling pollution

We work as part of the Defra group to create a better place for people and wildlife

Our ambition

The Environment Agency’s ambition for the environment and how we help the country to not only survive a changing climate, but thrive in it, is set out in EA2025 – Creating a better place

The strategic priorities which provide the detail about how we’ll achieve that ambition are developed by three national parts of the Environment Agency: our Environment and Business; Flood and Coastal Risk Management and Chief Operating Officer’s Directorates. These priorities are then achieved in partnership working nationally and locally with government, partners and local communities.

Joining the Environment Agency provides you with the opportunity to pursue many career paths whilst you are with us – developing complementary skills in frontline place-based delivery, shaping and influencing future  strategic direction and providing inspirational and creative leadership.

You can find out more about the types of roles available in the Careers section.
