Senior Technical Specialist – Groundwater Quality

Role Descriptions

Scrutiny on water quality has never been greater. You will play a leading role in enabling the delivery, regulation, and protection of groundwater water quality supporting Local Operations. You will be guiding the development of the key hydrogeological, and regulatory skills that are necessary to deliver our ambition for water. You will ensure our technical officers and teams receive the expert technical guidance and help that they need. This role is part of Geoscience Resilience Programme; you will be closely working alongside the other Senior Technical Specialists in the virtual national team.

Using extensive knowledge and experience of regulating in an operational environment you will be acting as a local point of focus for capability development and skills recovery. You will technically lead groundwater quality training, coaching, and mentoring nationally. You will use your enthusiasm and extensive technical leadership skills in Groundwater Quality to support area Groundwater & Contaminated Land teams delivery.

To ensure close working with relevant national and operational colleagues, you will influence and persuade others as the recognised operational lead in your discipline. You will use national networks to deliver improvements to the consistency of regulation, provide technical leadership in complex investigations and may be required to act as an Expert Witness, or mentor those acting as Expert Witness.

We are looking for a Senior Specialist with excellent technical leadership and people skills. A strong track record in groundwater water quality regulation and compliance who can train, coach, and mentor others is essential, as well as experience in dealing with complex technical issues and implementing regulatory solutions.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive technical and regulatory experience in Groundwater quality
  • an honours degree (or equivalent), and ideally a MSc level qualification (or equivalent), in geology / hydrogeology or relevant equivalent discipline.
  • confident communication skills, conveying complex technical information to a range of audiences.
  • strong technical leadership, interpersonal and team-working skills.
  • a proactive, self-motivated attitude that delivers quality outcomes
  • an ability to effectively engage people, build and maintain relationships with others outside the immediate team.
  • ability to motivate people to resolve conflicts and challenges.
  • Professional membership and chartership is strongly desirable
